So… Yes! I went alone to Crete! I admit it! And .it was the best decision I have ever made
So it all started a few weeks ago, I decided that I must to go on a vacation. The everyday life stress and pressure just overflowed in every aspect of my life. And I am sure that unfortunately, you are familiar with that also! If not, you’re a lucky cookie. But as far as I know, in the 21st century, everybody experience stress and pressure, and sometimes a glass of wine does not help anymore.(i don’t drink, just an expression)
So that was my case , meditation didn’t help, breathing exercises didn’t help. So I realised that i need to get out of my box (life) and see the world a little bit. I didn’t want to go too far, and I didn’t wanted something super exotic, I just wanted to clear my head and soul, and the best place to do it ,in my opinion, is Greece.
Greece isn’t far away from Israel (my country) so i flew for like an hour an a half. It was the best time to fly, because it wasn’t a traveling season ,so it wasn’t crowded and terrible. I packed my suitcase and got on the plane.
Now. Of course I was terrified to fly alone, it was my first travel all by myself, but I decided that my fear and my imagination, and questions of what could have happened, would make me miss a lot of things in life, and luckily i was right. Besides, Greece is a very wonderful and friendly country, and there was nothing to fear.
So we got off the plane…sorry…I got off the plane. The flight was wonderful, no crying babies . And i stepped into the airport of Heraklion, In Crete. Crete is divided into regions and one of them is Heraklion, the capital region and city.
Afrewards they immediately transferred me to my hotel. My hotel was located in the most beautiful coastal town Agia Pelagia, the most beautiful place with beaches and views like i’ve never seen before.
I met new people, and made some new friends on the first day. It is part of the fun, meeting and become in touch with people.
I had an organized trip to the Spinalonga Island which called officially Kalydon these days. This Island has a very painful and terrifying history, this island was used as a leper colony in the 19th century. People were ripped from their families and sent to live on their own in this leper colony, the ones who were trying to swim back to the shores of Alonda, was immediately shot and killed. But this colony has an important part in the history of curing the leper disease. Back in 1920’s Alexander Fleming discovered the penicillin, but only a decade after, medicine started to show interest in his discovery. one of the first attempts to experiment the penicillin as a cure to leper disease was a the huge experiment on the Spinalonga Island, many had been saved during this experiment. This island is one of the main causes of the fact that this disease is almost distinct.
OK… next time I’ll share with you some more photos, but this time of some stuff that i bought in Crete and it’s beautiful shopping centers.
to be continued…:)
